Most of us switch between text, voice notes and video without thinking about it. Each format is good at something different.
Text
Good at: precise information (addresses, times, codes), messages people need to search or copy later, reading in silence.
Weak at: tone. The same words can read as friendly or cold, and emoji only partly fix that. Text is also the cheapest format to mass-produce, which is why spam and scams love it.
Voice notes
Good at: tone and speed — you can say a lot quickly, and the listener hears how you feel.
Weak at: you can't see who is speaking, and people often can't listen right away. Long voice notes are hard to skim.
Short video messages
Good at: everything a voice note does, plus facial expression and showing what's around you. They are the closest asynchronous format to talking face to face — and the hardest to fake at scale.
Weak at: watching needs a moment of attention, and they are not the place for information people need to copy.
A simple rule of thumb
- Facts → text.
- Feelings and quick updates → voice or video.
- Something you want to show → video.
Where Circlr fits
Circlr is built entirely on short round videos: posts, stories, replies and direct messages are all circles up to 60 seconds. It deliberately has no text in direct messages — that is what keeps copy-paste spam and scam links out. It is not meant to replace every app you use; it is a place for the conversations where seeing each other matters.
